Four to six grants averaging $20,000 will be allocated each year of the program. Supportable expenses include composer compensation, musician fees, recording and sound mastering fees, studio expenses, orchestration, production equipment, and more.<\/p>\n<p>Applications will be reviewed on a rolling timeline by an advisory board made up of leading composers of film music, including <strong>Christophe Beck<\/strong>, <strong>Jongnic \u201cJB\u201d Bontemps<\/strong>, <strong>Kris Bowers<\/strong>, <strong>Miriam Cutler<\/strong>, <strong>Chanda Dancy<\/strong>, <strong>Tony Morales<\/strong>, and <strong>Pinar Toprak<\/strong>. Members of this advisory board will offer additional support and mentorship for interested applicants.<\/p>\n<h5><a href=\"https:\/\/newmusicusa.smapply.io\/prog\/reel_change\/\"><strong>Applications are now open.<\/strong><\/a><\/h5>\n<p>Composer Christophe Beck says:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;For too long, the community of composers who create scores for Hollywood films has been dominated by white men. Throughout my career, I\u2019d been aware of this and told myself that someday, I\u2019d like do something about it.\u00a0\u00a0That &#8216;someday&#8217; is finally here.<br \/>\n<strong><br \/>\nThe Reel\u00a0Change fund was born not only of a desire to promote opportunity for underrepresented composers, but also to enrich the art of film scoring itself<\/strong> by embracing a wider breadth of musical perspectives. Bowers has established himself at the forefront of Hollywood\u2019s emerging generation of composers, and throughout his career, he has consistently championed an art practice guided by multi-disciplinary collaboration. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.krisbowers.com\/\">krisbowers.com<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>JONGNIC \u201cJB\u201d BONTEMPS <\/strong>is a uniquely modern film composer, harmonizing a classical education with his rich tech background as a maestro of Silicon Valley to write everything from the hip-hop infused score for the Tribeca-favorite documentary\u00a0United Skates, to rousing additional music for\u00a0Creed II. She is also known for her work with Wong Fu Productions\u2019 debut feature \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/ew.com\/article\/2015\/05\/15\/everything-before-us-trailer-wong-fu\/\">Everything Before Us<\/a>\u201d, starring Randall Park (<i>Fresh Off The Boat<\/i>). <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chandadancy.com\/\">chandadancy.com<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>TONY MORALES <\/strong>is an Emmy-nominated composer known for his orchestral scores and textural sound for feature films and television, including <em>Bloodline<\/em> and <em>Scorpion<\/em>. His latest project, action-thriller <em>The Fugitive<\/em> is hailed as the new Quibi flagship series. Morales earned a Primetime Emmy nomination for the mini-series <em>Hatfields &amp; McCoys<\/em> (co-composed with John Debney), and scored all three seasons of Disney\u2019s <em>Elena Of Avalor<\/em> for which he received multiple Daytime Emmy nominations as well as an Annie Award nomination. Morales has composed music for documentaries including <em>Benedict Men<\/em>, <em>The Definition of Insanity<\/em>, and <em>The Dominican Dream<\/em>. <a href=\"http:\/\/tonymoralesmusic.com\/\">tonymoralesmusic.com<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>PINAR TOPRAK<\/strong> is one of the most refreshing voices in music composition today, with a diverse body of work spanning across film, television, and video games. She has composed for major superhero sagas like Marvel Studios\u2019 <em>Captain Marvel<\/em>, DC\u2019s <em>Stargirl<\/em>, and SY-FY\u2019s Superman prequel series <em>Krypton<\/em>. She also scored HBO\u2019s six-part docuseries <em>McMillions<\/em>, which premiered at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival, as well as Epic Game\u2019s massively popular online video game <em>Fortnite<\/em>. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pinartoprak.com\/\">pinartoprak.com<\/a><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>ABOUT THE PARTNERS<\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>CHRISTOPHE BECK<\/strong>, an LA-based, Canadian composer, started piano lessons at five, and by eleven he was learning Bee Gees songs by ear and performing with his first-ever band, the unfortunately-named Chris and The Cupcakes. During high school he studied piano, saxophone, and drums, and wrote many tender 80\u2019s love ballads. Beck studied music at Yale, and attended USC\u2019s prestigious film-scoring program, where he studied with Jerry Goldsmith. Beck scored the second season of WB\u2019s Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and received Emmy Award for Outstanding Music Composition for his score to the Buffy episode, \u201cBecoming, Part 1.\u201d In 2000, the cheerleading comedy Bring It On launched Beck\u2019s film career, which includes such diverse credits as Under the Tuscan Sun, Edge of Tomorrow, Crazy Stupid Love, Pitch Perfect, and the Hangover trilogy. More recently, Chris scored the Oscar\u00ae and Grammy\u00ae-winning animated film Frozen, and Marvel\u2019s Ant-Man films.
