OSNY Presents Mozart Mass in C minor + John Corigliano’s FERN HILL
The Oratorio Society of New York presents a program that pairs two powerful choral works separated by centuries but united by their expressive depth and emotional reach. John Corigliano’s Fern Hill, composed in 1960 and revised in 1999, sets the evocative early poem by Dylan Thomas. In contrast, the second half presents Mozart’s monumental Mass in C minor, K. 427, often referred to as the “Great” Mass. Composed in 1782–83 as a deeply personal vow following his marriage to Constanze Weber, the work remains unfinished yet stands among Mozart’s most ambitious sacred compositions and one of the most compelling sacred works of the Classical era.
