Ridgewood Jazz Fest Presents “I’m so ATL”
I’m so ATL presented by Ridgewood Jazz Fest features 4 important jazz artists from Atlanta shaping the sound of the music in New York and beyond.
Headliner Russell Gunn is the most associated jazz musician from Atlanta of the past 25 years. As a trumpeter he has earned spots in the bands of OutKast, NeYo, Marcus Miller, and Wynton Marsalis with whom he was nominated for a GRAMMY award. As an artist he has released a dozen records and in 2006 will celebrate 20 years of his groundbreaking classics Bionic:Krunk Jazz a blend of modern bebop with electronica and hip hop.
Bassist Michael Feinberg got his start performing with Gunn as a 17 year old during Gunn’s weekly residency at Churchill grounds. Since then the Atlanta native has toured the globe with an array of artists including Jon Batiste, Dave Liebman, Jeff Tain Watts, and Dayme Arocena.
Tivon Pennicott is one of the most influential saxophonists today. He has been a member of GRAMMY award winning ensembles lead by Gregory Porter Jr and Esperanza Spalding. The Atlanta native blends traditional jazz with modern compositions and his Jamaican heritage.
Zacchae’us Paul is finding his own path in the jazz scene. Blending his appreciation for jazz, southern rap, gospel and Caribbean rhythms Paul has recently released his latest project Jazz Money which was just featured at Sunmer Stage nyc.
